I cry over spilled milk – a collection of custom acrylic pins with “droplet” foil
These pins were illustrated and designed by me, then manufactured overseas. The “droplet” effect is created by using a special film to adhere raised UV resin to specific spots on the acrylic surface. I used the foil to create a three dimensional tears effect to the character as well as to further emphasize the liquid/milk effect of the text around the character.
High-quality PET printing helps capture all of the details of the original illustration, including details that most CMYK printing methods would miss. Subtle glow and skin rendering details are still just as clear as the digital artwork.
The droplet foil helps emphasise the illustration and also provides a novelty tactile effect. Without the foil, these pins would be pretty basic and fall behind in a saturated market, but the simple addition helps elevate the merchandise as a product.

Used a very new print method, without the security of other examples to reference. This was the first time that my manufacturing group had offered this effect, meaning that I didn’t have a certain idea of what the outcome would be. It required a lot of informed guesswork and previous knowledge to execute.
Applied a new technique in a thematically appropriate way. I took the concept of the droplet foil (which was intended to be used to represent rain) and applied it to something more unique that better suited my subject matter.
Created new works for pre-existing content. These projects feature characters that already exist, so they need to stay on-brand with previous content and also remain recognisable.
Managed product development, production, and other elements of external manufacturing. I was responsible for my own file layout and communication.
